A collection of essays that offers a glimpse into the mind of the relatively unprolific George Orwell. In particular, I could discern his perspective on power throughout many of the essays. I truly came to realize that the ideas embedded in *Animal Farm* and *1984* were grounded in his experiences during the Spanish Civil War and his time serving as a police officer in Burma. In particular, I felt that “The Hanging” and “Shooting an Elephant” were essays that only he could have written.
