The act of writing a novel means being bound by a theme one has chosen oneself. The situation for book reviewers is even worse; they are bound by the works they are tasked with discussing. Just as an author writes about fictional characters, why shouldn’t a book reviewer try writing about fictional books? Wouldn’t this restore creative freedom and bring the spirit of the author and the spirit of the critic together? That is the argument being made. The idea might be interesting, but I got tired of reading the endless stream of convoluted sophistry.
