*Everything About Product Management: From Business Strategy, IT Development, UX Design, and Marketing to Team and Organizational Management* (Takuya Oikawa, Kumiko Ogi, Haruki Sonehara, Shoeisha, 2021) is an ambitious book that attempts to comprehensively explain the full range of tasks required in product management. As can be seen from related articles published by the author, Ms. Ogi, this book articulates, systematizes, and diagrams abstract knowledge that has not been formalized. I thought it might be a good idea to hold a group reading session to establish a shared understanding among team members. I read *The Science of Entrepreneurship* when I took on the challenge of an intrapreneurial venture in 2022, but when it came to actually building a service as a product manager, there were many things I didn’t know where to start with, and I struggled greatly (for example, how to design product metrics or how to create a roadmap). I was struggling just to keep up with discussions within the team, so I used this book to learn the foundational knowledge and ways of thinking. In terms of fundamentals, Parts 1 and 2 were extremely valuable, and it seems that most of the “Related Articles” mentioned above are based on content from those sections. The subsequent parts cover more specialized topics related to organization, marketing, and software, and since many of these elements depend on the specific situation at hand, I felt it was sufficient to “read them when the need arises.” I later became a software engineer and moved away from product management, but the mindset I developed through this book and my work continues to help me do work that makes an impact on the business. Even if you’re not a product manager, I highly recommend this book to anyone who has the opportunity to be involved in product design.
